My June Piece is Done

My first piece of the Beaded Journal Project is complete (at least the hard part is, now I need to put the backing on it). I learned a lot and pushed my creative envelope, which is what I had hoped to do. This is my first beaded embroidery piece.

I kept craving Fanta orange soda and Cheetos. My sister wanted to have a orange slice candy, a coworker thought of Pepperidge Farm's Goldfish, and my mother wanted an orange popsicle.

The idea behind this piece is that the blue fish is swimming in a different direction from all of the other fish.

Title ideas: Swimming Upstream, One Fish, Two Fish..., any others?

Today's quote: One of the advantages of being disorderly is that one is constantly making exciting discoveries. - A. A. Milne

This is very nice! I like the blue fish, too. And, I like 'swimming upstream'. :)

I instantly wanted a bowl of orange sherbet. I think its wonderful. It made me smile when I first saw it.
How about " Choosing my own way"
for a title?
Off to add you to my list of people to watch their pages progress.

I love your piece, and I love orange! I can't believe this is your first bead embroidery, you obviously have a knack for it. I can't wait to see what else you embroider.

How about Orange Roughy?

Very cool! And you finished before July! I like the orange and you did some nice stitching in between.

Fabulous first piece of bead embroidery... like you've been doing it for a long time!!!!

The idea of it is immediately quite obvious, so you wouldn't really have to point to it in the title. Here's an idea... sit with your piece for a few moments, absorbing the details of it. Write a list of ALL the words and phrases that pop into your mind as you look at it. Circle the phrase that seems the MOST COMPELLING to you. Write "I am ____________." Fill in the blank with the word (or phrase) you circled. How is that for a title?

Done this way, the name of my July piece (which is already nearly complete) will be I Am Layers.

Oh, what a wonderful color! I love the fish, particularly the one fish swimming the other way (that's me!), and all the movement. No one would ever know this was your first bead embroidery piece, by the way. It's worked out very well.

I have a t-shirt for The Angry Dog down in Deep Ellum in Dallas ( I might add it is 15 years old) that says "only dead fish swim with the stream" I love that shirt so much! I haven't seen it tin a while this makes me want to go dig it out! Great work! Jackie C.

Love your piece! Love orange.... one of those colors that people don't usually say "that's my favorite!" or they don't want to confess....
Love your blog page... I'm originally from Milwaukee, relocated up here to Three Lakes 20 years ago and still occasionally get down there... so like to look at your Milwaukee spots.... Do you know Brenda Schweder? She is coming up here at the end of July to do a class and a book signing at a shop in town. Hers will be the first class I am taking on beading, though I have been beading for awhile. Can't wait to see her stuff... Once again, great June page!

Hi Amy, What an incredible job for your first bead embroidery piece! I love your idea of one fish swimming the other way from all of the other fish and a different color, too. All of that beautiful orange makes me think of mangoes and mandarin oranges. Gorgeous work! -Karen

I love the bright essence of this piece! And I, too, am amazed that this is your first bead embroidery, you certainly have a flair for it! The movement around the fish is exquisite. You're off to a fantastic start!!

Hi Any,

Beautiful work for your 1st! I love orange and it works so well with the idea of your piece, especially with the "blue fish" :o) Thanks for sharing,

Can you handle anymore congrats? Cause it's a great piece. Do most artists feel like they are the blue fish? I have a feeling that's so. Isn't there a Dr. Seuss book called Red Fish, Blue Fish? He should have gone for Orange with Blue. Great job!

I love this! Great color and great idea! I thought of "Swimming Toward Yourself" when I was pondering it.
